MYSURU INK AGAIN IN DEMAND - SUCCESS STORY OF PSU

top-news

In 1962, Mysore Paints and Varnish Ltd.(MPVL), a Public Sector Undertaking(PSU) started manufacturing indelible ink. The sole supplier of indelible ink, without which the holding of elections will be extremely difficult, is busy meeting the requirements and the factory is working overtime for the challenges. Perhaps this is the biggest order forever for the Mysore Paints and Varnish Ltd. The country will need 26.55 lakh vials of the marker, costing around Rs. 55 crores for the Lok Sabha elections. One vial of 10 mg is sufficient for 700 voters.

The company is also to meet the demands of other countries. Mysore Paints and Varnish Ltd is supplying indelible ink to at least 60 countries going for polls this year. These countries also need the ink for elections. With the number of voters increasing with every election, the demand has continuously increased. The company has already supplied 70% of the ordered quantity and the rest will be supplied in March ‘24. More and more countries are asking for the indelible ink and MPVL is sure to have more orders this year. Each vial costs approximately Rs.174/- this is Rs.14/- more than last year due to an increase in the cost of raw materials especially the cost of silver nitrate, an important ingredient of the ink.

A general perception created by some wasted interest that PSU and other government organizations are not working and a systematic approach is going on to get rid of the PSUs and other government organizations but a serious and systematic approach towards improvements of functioning is likely to do wonders due to the vast existing infrastructure available in the organizations. This is proved by the MPVL from its inception.
